“Wake up, Cecilia!”: Girl falls asleep during ballet performance and conquers the internet

A children's ballet performance went viral on social media in recent days and took over the entire internet.

Little Cecília Viana, 4 years old, fell asleep at the beginning of the show “The Tree of Life”, by the Instituto Cultural Artevida, in Barueri, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, last Sunday (20).

To the sound of “Pra te fazer dormir” by Isadora Canto, the dancers appear lying on the floor of the stage. The girls get up and start the choreography, except for Cecília, who has actually fallen asleep.

The little girl's parents, Cristiane Oliveira, 38, and Adevaldo Viana, 36, who were filming the show, were left wondering whether the choreography had changed or whether their daughter was actually sleeping.

It took a while for the mother to realize that her little girl had fallen asleep – in the middle of the stage. In the video recording Cecília’s performance, Cristiane bursts out laughing and says: “someone wake up my daughter”.

At another point, the mother says: “Wake up, Cecília! Let’s sleep at home.”

In conversation with CNNCecília's father says that this was her first performance, and that for a year she has been attending ballet classes at the Instituto Cultural Artevida, with teacher Dany Viegas.

The teacher reports that “last year, she presented herself at the institute due to the pandemic”.
